I crave a lot of things in life — achievement, recognition, financial freedom, healthy relationships, peace and quiet, chocolate.

But I’ve never craved work/life balance (or, as we discussed in the previous email, work/life/passion project balance). Not in the same sense as those other things. I’ve been interested in what it is and what it looks like, but I haven’t desperately yearned for it.

Is that because balance is more gentle, less impactful or immediately gratifying in a tangible way?

Is it because — again, as we discussed in last week’s email — work/life/passion project balance as we’ve come to understand it isn’t perfectly possible?

Or… is it because it’s not really what I’m searching for?

In my eyes, work/life/passion project balance isn’t an end in and of itself — it’s a means to an end. We strive for work/life/passion project balance because we want something else. We crave something else.

What is that “something else” for you?

I’ve given it a lot of thought, and — for me — it’s creative fulfillment. That’s what I’m searching for. That’s what I crave. I want to make cool stuff and share it with people. And I want to have the time and energy to do that amidst everything else that needs to get done — hence the need for the balance.

But it’s the creative fulfillment that satisfies my mission and my purpose.

What is this for you?
