How comfortable are you with being in the public eye?
I’m an introvert and, like many folks, I’m very good at laser-focusing on my own flaws — especially the physical ones. 😬
When I first started podcasting, I wasn’t sure if I should put myself “out there” — especially visually. After all, weren’t podcasters meant to be heard, and not seen?
However, while podcasting is a voice-centric medium, your face is still important. People connect with your voice, but many like to connect that voice with a face.
We’re drawn to and changed by voices — but many of us connect emotionally and empathetically to faces.
I’ve noticed that Instagram and Facebook posts featuring my face get DOUBLE the amount of likes and comments as my text posts.
And advertisements with human faces out-perform ads without — so much so that advertising platforms like Facebook recommend featuring human faces in your ads.
How do YOU feel about being seen?
Do you have author/podcaster headshots? Is your smiling face on your social media profile or on your website? Is your picture on your podcast’s cover art? Do you feel like this has helped your brand?
Or do you prefer to stay behind the scenes?
Words & warmth,
Sarah
