Last week, we talked about how the act of writing for ourselves isn’t selfish. This week, I really want to ask you, just to make sure — is what you’re creating really for you?
Some of us (myself included, at one point in time) are only writing or creating because we feel like we “have to”. Like we “should”, like we “owe it to someone”, like someone (a family member, an audience, etc.) expects it of us”.
If you could dump all of the expectations, guilt, shoulds, and “have to”s, what would you create in your newfound freedom? What are you aching for in the depths of your soul?
We create for different reasons — to produce something we’re proud of, to see our name on the cover or in the credits, to learn, to find fulfillment, to grow, to make money, to process life events, and even to heal.
What is it you need right now from your creative process?
What do you truly want to create just for YOU?
