Blimey, I miss this. ☕
I’m not going to say anything new here, or anything that you haven’t felt more or less intensely for yourself. But I miss going out for a really good cup of coffee.
I miss the beautiful dry, acrid taste of a stark, plain cappuccino that I didn’t make myself. I miss the small, pleasant interactions with the barista. I miss sitting in a coffee shop and watching strangers’ lives briefly intersect with mine. I miss the warm, cozy feeling of being in a safe space within my community. I miss the feeling of moving through my own life with momentum and purpose.
Life wasn’t perfect in “the before times”, and there are a lot of things I *don’t* miss — the constant interruptions, unwanted conversation with strangers who won’t go away, loud-talkers on speakerphone, getting to the coffee shop only to realize I’ve left my laptop at home, snow/ice/parking tickets on my windshield.
But I miss the option. The possibility that I could go somewhere for a morning or afternoon and experience new possibilities. The feeling of stepping out into a new space flush with potential.
How about you? How have you found ways to connect with others, and feel like you’re moving forward with your life despite the pandemic?
Words & warmth,
Sarah
